Alex Carrington- Boy Arrested After Refusing to Recite the Pledge of Allegiance

An article written today by German Lopez sums up an interesting matter that recently took place in Florida. An 11-year-old child was seized and captured after he refused to recite the Pledge of Allegiance.
According to Florida News Anchors, the boy got into an argument with a substitute teacher. After telling the teacher that the American values are often racist, she asked him, “Why if it was so bad here, he did not go to another place to live.” The boy then responded with, “They brought me here.” The quarrelsome conversation continued and the substitute called the office because she “did not want to continue dealing with him.”
A study published in Sociology of Education of more than 60,000 schools found that schools with larger minority populations are more likely to implement criminalized disciplinary policies and often employ large amounts of police.
Many investigations have also discovered that African American students are punished more harshly than white students, even when they engage in identical or similar behavior.
This current event relates to the establishment of the Bill of Rights. In reading this article I was stunned by the absence of this student first amendment right.

  1. this is insane! one of our country's principles is freedom of speech. so he can decide whether or not he wants to recite a pledge rooted in racism and misogynism.

  2. The kid is free to make his own choices. I don't know why a grown woman was fighting with a child over this.

  3. This is horrible, an obvious overstepping of the powers of government. The teacher had a right to ask the kid to leave but to arrest him is simply inane.
