A Texas police officer has finally been found guilty of murder after shooting an unarmed black teenager in April 2017.
Former Balch Springs police officer Roy Oliver shot and killed 15 year-old Jordan Edwards. Oliver and his partner were called to a local house party following a report of under age drinking. Oliver and his partner heard gunshots and ran outside. Jordan was in a the passenger seat of a moving vehicle suspected to have firearms inside. Oliver states that the vehicle was heading towards his partner so he shot 5 rounds and the vehicle. footage shows that the vehicle was driving away from the area and Oliver's partner says that he never felt in danger. Jordan's family shed many tears in the court room after having justice for their beloved family member. Since 2005, 31 officers have been conflicted of manslaughter. but Oliver is only the second officer to be convicted of murder in over a decade. Oliver was found not guilty of lesser charges manslaughter and aggravated assault. Roy Oliver faces 5 years to life in prison.
