BTS Advocates Self- Love for Global Youth During UN Speech
Earlier today K-pop group, BTS, attended the United Nations 73 general assembly to discuss their "Love Myself" campaign with UNICEF. The meeting included global leaders from around the world and was focused around the launch of Generation Unlimited which is a new UNICEF partnership aimed at offering a quality education, training and employment to millions of young people all over the world by 2030. UNICEF stands for United Nations Children's Fund. BTS had previously launched a partnership with UNICEF as an anti- violence campaign "Love Myself" The campaign aimed at making the world a safe place for children and teenagers and a place where they do not have to live in fear of violence.
UNICEF was created by the United Nations General Assembly in 1946 to provide emergency aid such as food, and healthcare to children in countries that were devastated by World War 2. It relies on government and private donors. Today it provides essential items such as vaccines, medicines, nutritional supplements, emergency shelters, family reunification, and educational supplies.
BTS has always focused on giving a voice to the younger generations through their music and has never shied away from criticizing societal ills. The campaign they launched after their "Love Yourself" albums and the speech they delivered in front of global leaders further shows their dedication to actually making a difference in our society and not only talking about everything that is wrong in our world, but also taking action that is effective and reaches more than just the 'fan-girls' BTS is the first K-pop artist/group to address the UN and impact in such a formal political form. In the speech the leader of the group, Kim Namjoon, or RM, urges the world and the younger generations especially, to overcome their fears and to speak out on world issues and let themselves be heard "No matter who you are, where you're from, your skin color, your gender identity, just speak yourself,"
It's interesting and inspiring to see a group outside of America gain such prestige and attention as BTS has. The fact that they're using their position at the top of the billboard charts to send messages about self love and giving this speech at the UN shows how much they care about not only ARMY but also all young people around the world. I'm curious; you mentioned Kim Namjoon gave the speech, but do you know if any of the other members, like Min Yoongi or Jung Hoseok, helped write it? BTS is also well known for being active on their social media. Has Jeon Jungkook, as the youngest member of the group, reached out through it?
ReplyDeleteI really admire when artist give such positive messages to not only their fans but other people around the world as well encouraging them to be a better version of them self's every day like RM said and becoming a bit wiser. Also i am very proud of how BTS being the top thing right know they are still humble to others and really take inconsideration about their fans always trying their best to make everyone happy.- Yesenia Ramirez
