Tammi Hedges, a woman who runs an animal rescue center in North Carolina, sheltered around 30 animals in her warehouse during the storm, providing food, water, shelter, and medication. Of her own accord, she administered drugs to certain animals in need, claiming they were not in reach of a veterinary, or animal hospital. At one point, her unlicensed animals were taken by animal services willingly, and she is now facing charges for illegally administering drugs to an animal without a license. Personally, I support her actions, because despite being illegal, if it’s something last reaort and necessary, I see the need to administer medicine to an animal. This also related to previous disasters in the US like hurricane katrina, destroying various cities and the homes of animals, leaving it up to shelters like those of Hedges to take them in.
I think it's sad that people just trying to do good get charged by the authorities while there are so many people who should be behind bars that aren't, just because they are powerful or rich.
ReplyDeleteI understand why it’s illegal, but in this case I don’t think she should be arrested. She was trying to help, she couldn’t take the dog to the vet, and the dog could have possibly died.
ReplyDeleteIt truly is sad to see that those good people in the world are being charged for simply trying to do good. While i understand it is illegal its better she have done that than just let them die.
ReplyDeleteThis is so upsetting, especially because I know a doctor who did what he wasn't supposed to do in order to save someone's life. People shouldn't be punished for saving lives. Everyone is trying to help those affected by the hurricane- she's just doing her part. This woman was providing a safe place for those in need, just as America is known for being a haven for those who can't go home.

This is really upsetting to read about and know that it's going on currently. Why should she be arrested for trying to save and care for animals instead of the owners being punished for abandoning their pets?

I feel that people should have protested or stood against this event because no one should be punished for helping out. Do you think people would have spoke up if they could?

ReplyDeleteShe was trying to help dogs and instead she got arrested. Our society is very twisted in the sense that we are so quick to incriminate people that are doing good but never care to look at the actaul terrible people.
