This story had been around for a while and I haven't seen anyone do it and if u did I apologize but I still have my own opinions. A Dallas police officer was charged with man slaughter for shooting an unarmed 26 year old black man named Botham Shem Jean in his own apartment. He apparently was extremely tired after a log day and wanted to get him and sleep. As she walked up to the apartment door she she thought was hers she noticed it was unlocked. Being a police officer she was startled my this and knowing she always locks her door she pulled out her gun. Went into the apartment that wasn't hers and noticed that a large man was in it. Scared and asking questions later she shot and killed this unarmed man in the thought attempt to protect/ save her own life from an intruder in her home. It wants until after she shot him she realized that it wasn't her apartment. Many reports say that she went back to her home in uniform which she was not allowed to do. Apparently she also gave jean verbal commands that jean ignored because her was confused as to why she was there in the 1st place.
This story is shocking in may ways because one she was disoriented and didn't know what she was doing that night. Apparently after the killing an investigation of jean apartment took place to find any small bit of negativity to pin on jean and justify ambers fatal shot.
Overall I feel and know for a fact that this act of murder was considered a racial crime. Because Jean was a large black male he was automatically posses as a threat even tho he's just a man. This is due to stereotypes and societies views on race. I didn't disclose all the information because its ion the article you van read but these type of shootings aren't always reported and even when they are and an innocent, bright, hopeless black young man gets shot someone even a police office is there to discredit him for all these things. This systemic racism needs to be ended but coming from a young black man that has sadly had to deal with racism and stereotypes and is told by his white parents that he as a black male must be carful when cops are around. I don't know is I have faith in our society as much as others do.

This story is unbelievable! I thought the way you stated your conclusion was interesting. Your opinions were very realistic and I agree with you.
ReplyDeleteI like how realistic you were about this. Hopefully, this story may shed some light on how everyday life can be a danger to people of color who are seen as a "threat."
