How “Innocent Until Proven Guilty” Fits Into Rape Cases Hadley McGhee

The animosity towards Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh’s accusers is disgusting. Christine Blasey Ford is receiving death threats for coming forth. And she is about to have every single detail of her life scrutinized by a bunch of men- just like Anita Hill.
I understand the concept of innocent until proven guilty, but I’m sure it will blow some politicians’ minds to know that you don’t have to decimate a woman’s reputation to prove her alleged rapist’s innocence. There is no reason that we need to treat a professor of psychology like a common whore. There is no reason why we needed to treat a lawyer as a strumpet.
The treatment of Anita Hill was sickening in 1991 and the treatment of Christine Blasey Ford is sickening now.

News flash: the accused can be innocent until proven without the accusing being guilty until proven innocent.

  1. I agree with Hadley, because if you are raped, and you are too afraid to say anything because you have been violated and you feel like you dont have a voice most of the time the evidence is gone.

  2. The sad thing is that because there usually are no witnesses or evidence regarding rape cases, it is usually based on who the majority of the people believe is telling the truth. For some reason, people would rather believe that the victim is making things up knowing very well that allegations like this could ruin their reputation than believing a "nice guy" would do something like this. I definitely agree with your last point. We do not have to assume that the victim is lying until the accused is found guilty.

  3. there is lots of material such as the yearbook entries of georgetown prep that point towad the truth. there cant be solid evidence because like Neha said, there are usually no witnesses for sexual assault or rape cases.
