disguised mariachi musicians kill 5 people in Mexico City -Daviah Harrison
This article was produced on September 16, 2018 by Katherine Lam. On Friday night, September 14, three gunman disguised as mariachi band members opened fire in Mexico City's iconic square. Five people were killed and and eight were injured. A Mexican security expert said that this seemed to be a "targeted shooting on a specific restaurant by an organized crime group." Even though this incident was quite alarming, shops and restaurants appeared to operate normally and no one canceled their reservations.
This article instantly made me think of the colonist when they disguised themselves as Indians for the Boston Tea Party. Even though the colonist and the gunman committed two different crimes, they still felt the need to hide themselves when doing it. When I heard that things went back to normal the day after the shooting, I was really shocked. I don't think it would have been like that if they were in the United States. I feel like a lot of people would have canceled reservations and not have participated if they were here, also. Hearing that the people in Mexico continued their activities made me feel like they were not afraid for it to happen again and I kind of admire that because I would not want to go back to that location. It reminds me to not base all of my decisions on events that happened in the past.

Rose Tharp -- I can't believe they would just act like business as usual. It's horrible
ReplyDeleteIt’s kind of strange that the shops or people didn’t show concern about the shooting and seems kind of disrespectful to the people who died.
