Avery Corley: First female nighttime news anchor in Saudi Arabia

Summary:
On Thursday night Al Dakheel became the first woman nighttime news anchor for television in Saudi Arabia. This is a very important event for women's rights in the workforce in Saudi Arabia and for women's rights in general. Even though women in this country have some of the most limited rights in the world there are small yet extremely important victories sprouting in the country. Many new advances for women's rights like the ability for women to drive and for more women to work have occurred due to the crown prince’s 2030 plan. This plan intends to modernize the country with women's rights and the growth of their economy. Just a couple years ago in 2016 the first ever woman news anchor delivered the morning news, now there is the first woman to ever deliver the nightly news. Even though this is an amazing achievement there are still many tasks to be accomplished when talking about basic rights for females in Saudi Arabia. Hopefully, if the 2030 plan works out women are to be expected to make up one-third of the workforce which will be an excellent achievement for the gender-segregated country.

Analysis:
This article was written by Amanda Erickson which discussed many important points about the women's rights situation in Saudi Arabia. Even though to most people this achievement might seem microscopic, for women in this country this is a major step towards freedom. I think that the situation in the country is still a major problem, however, I believe that there is hope and a foundation being laid for a new beginning, a new era of possible freedom for women in Saudi Arabia.

I find it crazy that in a modern world we still have divisions such as gender segregation in countries such as Saudi Arabia. Although technically its part of the national religion, not everyone is a part of it, and that is why we have separation of church and state.
