Brazil's National Museum Burned Down- Adriana Chavez

https://www.bbc.com/news/world-latin-america-45392668

Summary:

On Sunday, September 2nd, The National Museum of Brazil that resides in Rio de Janeiro fell down in flames. A fire had sparked that Sunday evening after the staff had closed for the day. The fire was able to be controlled once firefighters gathered water from a nearby lake. Although no injuries were reported and there is no known cause for the start of the fire, it is said that most of the 20 million artifacts held inside are now destroyed. These artifacts included one of the oldest human remains found in the Americas, known as "Luzia," and items from the arrival of the Portuguese in the 1500s. The museum had represented much of Brazil's history and held over 200 years worth of discoveries, as a result, many Brazilians are mourning over this "cultural tragedy."

Analysis:

I had no prior knowledge about this event or even about the museum itself. However, after reading this article I feel well-informed about both the museum and the event of the fire. The article was published today and it is very well updated on any information that has been released. I can correlate this event to the many other significant locations that were burned down in history such as the very first White House by the British, and the library in Alexandria caused by Julius Caesar. All three events were historical landmarks that represented some kind of society and all had important artifacts or information that were destroyed within the flames.
