Recent clown incidents, both real and fake, have brought Target to the decision to stop selling clown masks altogether. Search results for 'clown masks' turn up empty on the store website and links from search engines to Target.com (which were previously stocked) show the "product out of stock". Although the masks are off the shelves, it seems that the actual costumes are still up for sale, including clown costumes in kids' and adult sizes, and the infamous "sexy clown".
As many if not all of you know, this whole clown thing started earlier this month when numerous sightings began pouring in, claiming that these "creepy clowns" were trying to lure kids into forests, making threats to schools, and generally just being a pain to police departments. On the bright side, we got some pretty cool memes out of this whole thing. The hysteria reached a point where best-selling horror author Stephen King got on Twitter and ironically tried to calm down some folks.
"Hey, guys, time to cool the clown hysteria--most of em are good, cheer up the kiddies, make people laugh."
In fact, clown mask sales have gone up 300% this year. And the professional clowns, the ones that do this for a living, are really takin' a hit. A "Clown Lives Matter" march was even organized, but soon cancelled due to loads of hate on Facebook.

Y'all this is getting ridiculous, I mean , it was ridiculous to begin with but come on.
Ronald McDonald's been put on hold until this whole things dies down. And this isn't just affecting the U.S. either. In the UK, they have also benched Ronald McDonald. But this reminds me of quite a few other bizarre mass hysteria incidents including the Salem Witch Trials, the Dancing Plague of 1518, and the Ebola outbreak from a while back.
