Sarah Childs- Wells Fargo Makes Employee Work Overtime Without Pay

SummaryWells Fargo apparently forced some hourly employees to work late without any overtime pay, former workers claim. These overtimes were mandatory and took place during "call nights," when the employees would call random customers to sell them additional products like credit cards in an effort to meet the unrealistic sales goals. Too many people claim that Wells Fargo violated federal law that requires overtime pay for hourly workers. Additionally, so-called "wage theft" complaints and similar lawsuits go back to 1999, Senators who asked the Labor Department to investigate whether the company "aggressively skirted overtime laws." In response to the drastic claims raised by employees who spoke to CNNMoney, Wells Fargo said "employees are compensated for all hours worked, including all overtime hours." This company also demanded that their treatment is "applicable to state and local laws."

AnalysisThis article was published by Matt Egan at CNNmoney. This is a very reliable source that I trust and do not believe that they put any bias into this article. It was published on September 30, 2016 which worries me a little because this is definitely enough time for this investigation to be concluded, but I saw absolutely no follow up. Additionally, I did not have any knowledge of this subject before I read this article. This affected my view on this issue because I did not have any bias. After reading the article, I believe that more companies should be checked regularly to find out how our country's people are being treated. I also believe that this significantly shows how our government system needs to have tighter restrictions on the quality of the workplace. This investigation can synthesize to a very diluted version of slavery. These people are given nothing for their hard work to boost the cooperation, similarly to the ways slaveowners did not pay not provide for their slaves. Slavery was a much larger issue than this of course, but Wells Fargo needs to be persecuted!

  1. I agree with you Sarah in that the businesses in our country need to step up their game in the quality of the workplace and see how their employees are feeling.

  2. I agree that more companies should be more caring towards their customers. There should be an increase in restrictions towards quality in the workplace.
