Elizabeth McCullough: Obama Speaks about Man on Mars

Synopsis: In the article written by President Barack Obama himself, he starts off by reminding us of how he has encouraged the research of space since the beginning of his campaign. He then elaborates on some of the successes he has accomplished in the space program since his election as president. He goes on to declare that the next major goal of NASA, is to put people on Mars. He claims that advancements are well on their way, and America should be able to send people to Mars by the 2030's. This will be one of, if not the most monumental step in our space odyssey.

Analysis: This is very exciting news. The fact that we may reach another planet within in my lifetime is almost unbelievable. For so long we have written science fiction novels about other planets, especially Mars. Soon we may no longer have to imagine such things, we'll have facts. My childhood is about to get blown out of the water.

Synthesis: This synthesizes to the moon landing of 1969, when man first stepped foot on the moon. As Neil Armstrong said it was "one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind." This was the biggest scientific accomplishments of the era. This was the first time humans were able to stand on a planetary object other than Earth. Mars will be the second.
