Being Muslim American in the Year of Donald Trump- Grace Schwall

This article is about the discrimination from Donald Trump and his supporters that Muslim Americans have received in the past months. The Islam religion has been targeted as a threat to our nation by the republican nominee, and he has even suggested policies that would prevent the immigration of Muslims to the United States. The number of hate crimes against Muslim Americans in the past year has also seen an extreme rise. Some citizens in the United States who practice Islam are saying that they feel more hatred to their religion now than in the months after the 9/11 attacks.

This article was written by MJ Lee from CNN in order to educate Americans about the hate and discrimination members of our community and possible leaders of our nation are demonstrating towards Muslim Americans. Terrorist groups such as ISIS and Al Qaeda are an extremely small percentage of Islamic extremists who have been misrepresenting the Muslim religion since before the 9/11 attacks. People who are expressing hatred towards this peaceful religion are wrongly labeling a large group based on attacks performed by the extremists of the religion. The Bill of Rights grants all Americans freedom of religion and by discriminating against Muslims Trump and his supporters are violating this right. This discrimination can be tied to the anti-Semitism in Germany during the time of World War 2. Whenever people are targeted for their religion it is an infringement on their inalienable rights.

  1. I don't think any group should be targeted. We all have contributed to this country and should not have our inalienable rights infringed upon.
