Sarah Childs- Real World War 2 Tanks for Sale
Summary: A collection of 120 vehicles, including tanks, motorcycles, warplanes, and armed cars are going to be put on sale in France on Sunday. These vehicles all played a key role in the defeat of the Nazis during World War 2. Many other artifacts are being auctioned as well, but the centerpiece of the entire auction is M4 Sherman tank, expected to go for up to $440,000. Surprisingly, this artifact is still in working condition, so if you are ever stuck in traffic, you could just plow your way through in this enormous machine! Additionally, this unique tank was used during the Battle of the Bulge for the takeover of Paris in 1944. An M24 Chaffee light tank was also used in the Battle of the Bulge, the biggest battle the American army fought in the war, is also going for up to $275,000. These tanks, originally displayed in the Normandy Tank Museum, were owned by the museum's founder, Patrick Nerrant. He built the collection over one of the world's greatest wars, resorting many of the artifacts to working order. Recently, Nerrant has gone bankrupt due to the sudden drop in the tourism industry in France. With all of the terrorist attacks in the very recent past, tourism in France has taken a hard hit. Nerrant is now planning to retire with all of the money raised from the auction.
Analysis: This article was created by CNN news on September 16. I personally believe that this information does not affect the message of this article. Prior to reading this article, I had knowledge of this incredible war, but I did not know much about the use of machinery during this time period. This article really notified me of how valuable these artifacts were to the success of this war. This article was written possibly for anyone interested in buying one of these machines and for the people of the United States that has an interest in our history. This article also was written to inform people of an amazing opportunity to gain something very valuable to our past, and to inform the nation about the hardships that France is experiencing and how to help them in a small way. We can infer many things from this story about our lives today. For instance, this shows how terrorism is increasingly damaging our world's greatest economies and connect many people that experienced this tragic war back to the past to show how amazing the present is. World War 2 can synthesize to many things, but it especially connects to the American Revolution! The major War of the Revolution was between the growing British power and the young colonists. The colonists struggled with the desire to break away from the controlling mother country, but had the help of major allies. World War 2 is shockingly similar! The war was fundamentally between the powerful Nazi government, who is spreading all through Europe, and the new allied powers. Overall, this article is very current, but tells us so much about our past.
