9/5/16
Many families gather around a small stone in honor for their lost and loved ones. The marker reminds them of the man they lost, but also what is still missing. Especially because there is no trace of many of these people. Fifteen years after the attacks on the World Trade Center, the remains of the 40 percent of the people who died have still not been identified. The victims are most likely dead, but there is no physical evidence. Not having the remains keeps the families holding onto that ongoing pain. Some families choose to believe that their loved ones are among the unidentified remains stored at a repository underneath the World Trade Center site. The city is trying to move the remains to the repository but many families are fighting it. Some of them are saying that the unidentified dead deserve an above-ground memorial. Families believe that keeping the remains underground is painful and insulting. Most families choose to be hopeful and believe that the remains will be identified.
This honestly breaks my heart, it's fifteen years later and families have to look at a grave and know that their loved ones aren't even under there, just the memory. It inspires me how hopeful and how much fight all these people have. This is compared to the 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami and the thousands that were lost, along with their unidentified remains.

Kiri Luckey: 9/11 was a tradegy! That was such a devastating day for alot of people, especially for those families who lost someone.
ReplyDeleteThe fact that is had been over a decade and people still aren't getting closure from this event is extremely saddening. September 11, 2001 changed the lives of thousands of people around the world. I hope one day people will finally be healed and be able to accept this horrible tragedy.
ReplyDeleteIt's absolutely devastating that after fifteen years, people still have to re-live the tragedies of 9/11. -Alix Burns
