SUMMARY: Southern Poverty law center tracks organizations that are hate groups in the U.S. Their definition of hate groups is " those that vilify entire groups of people based on immutable characteristics such as race or ethnicity." White lives matter falls into that category according to the SPLC. The author of this article brings up the point that the law center is left leaning. White lives matter and black lives matter have different ideologies and that's what makes white lives matter a hate group. SPLC President Richard Cohen wrote a blog titled "Black lives matter is not a hate group." with an explanation. The black lives matter movement was started after Trayvon Martins murder. The white lives matter movement website promotes the idea of "white genocide". Men and women of this group wave confederate flags and criticize the black lives matter movement.
ANALYSIS: Katie Mettler the author of this article tried to show the opinion of two sides. I agree that white lives matter is a hate group. Most will think that saying black lives matter eliminates the fact that other people's lives do too and that's not true. This article was written to announce white lives matter as a hate group. This article brings awareness and importance to the situation. At a protest , one white lives matter sign said “14 words,” a reference to the white supremacist motto: “We must secure the existence of our people and a future for white children.” White lives matter being a hate group can connect with the civil rights movement in the past.

I totally agree with your statement. And I think saying "black lives matter" is a way to focus on one group's problem; it's like saying they matter too, not they're the only ones that matter
ReplyDeleteThe White Lives Matter group claims to want to secure the existence of their people and a future for white children, but the group was also created as retaliation against the BLM group. BLM came into existence in 2013 after the murder of Trayvon Martin. No one saw White Lives Matter until BLM was gaining attention in the media.
ReplyDeleteI agree with your analysis, and I'm glad that the White Lives Matter group was classified as a hate group. They can't justify or defend their "movement" as a righteous one.
ReplyDeleteI very much so do agree with you. Due to all the devastating situations and past challenges the black community have gone through making this group does make it a hate group and takes away from the true problem.
ReplyDeleteI agree with your analysis there has been many controversies on this subject due to the black lives matter community . I think they are focusing on the wrong things.
