Victims of the recent flooding in Baton Rouge, Louisiana are currently left trying to rebuild their lives back to normal. Two local women are putting in their own help to make this happen. Sarah Wampler and Tia Whittington have organized the unique flood drive organization Hope for Homecoming, which provides high school girls and boys with tuxedos and dresses for their upcoming homecoming and prom dances. Local boutiques and formal wear stores have donated hundreds of dresses and tuxes for the organization, and teens are encouraged to come pick out their own outfit for free. Although it's not much, "it brings out their joy, it brings them a new boost of energy when probably they're going through a hard time. It makes them a little happier and lifts their spirit and we love that," said Wampler.
This article was published on a local news station, so its purpose is to shed light on an organization that can offer some help to those reading it. The flooding began on August 12, a little more than a month ago. This article was published only a few days ago, showing how families are still recovering because the storms were so severe. This article is significant because it shows a community coming together to help one another, which is a nice sentiment. This sense of community and charity can be tied back to 2005, when the country came together to help rebuild after Hurricane Katrina.
This is such an amazing act! This is very important to the community, and I agree it does show how people still come together and care for one another. Which is very important for a stable environment.
ReplyDeleteThis is assuring to me to know that people are caring of others and want to help in whichever ways they can.
ReplyDeleteThis is such a great story to share especially now when everything else seems so dark and scary. Their kindness brings hope to me that there is still good in this world. I love that they are recognizing how much things like homecoming matter to younger people and how they are trying to have fun and happiness despite their horrible situation.
