Drake and Young Thug Show Their Full Support for Lil Wayne Following His Battle with Cash Money- Bakari Williams

Analysis: Sunday Night, Hip-Hop artist Drake brought his mentor/producer Dwayne Michael Carter otherwise known as Lil Wayne, label head of Young Money Records, on stage to perform in concert and there were some comments and remarks that Lil Wayne had to say after the fact. Wayne has been going through an ongoing legal battle with his previous label, Cash Money Records, over freedoms to release songs to the public. In response to recent events he made statements on social media including, “F*ck Cash Money” and, “I luh my fanz but I’m dun.” Numerous other Hip-Hop artists have spoken out in support of Lil Wayne in his endeavors including: Drake, Chris Brown, Rich Homie Quan, Young Thug and Chance the Rapper. Lil Wayne describes his current psyche as “defenseless and mentally defeated” because of his restricted access to release his own work through his label.

Synthesis: The predicament that Dwayne finds himself in is actually more closely related to Puritans than you may think. They both had their voices taken from them with a slim probability that the people in power would change their minds. Both have also tried to move away from the problem to open a new colony/label to open a space for others that offers the very right that it denied them but still somehow found themselves under a tight grip of the people originally oppressing them.

  1. I agree on the synthesis in this post so much, mainly because people tend to forget about the similarities of hip hop and american history and culture. That is why musicals and books such as Hamilton are so important because they help try to brigde the gap between the American People

  2. I love your synthesis. It's cool that you could connect today's pop culture with something like the Puritans. Shout out to you
