Grim Sleeper Justice- Emily Eppig 8th

Decades after the first body was discovered, Lonnie Franklin Jr. is being charged with 10 murders. The murders went unsolved for years until Franklin was tied to the scenes of multiple crimes by his DNA, his son having been in the police database. Although he is being charged with many counts of murder, a recent raid on his home led to the discovery of photos and videos of over 100 women. A startling difference from the charges. Many of the women in these photos have been identified or recognized as missing persons, but some still remain a mystery.
I view this case as an example of police work done right. A killer was caught and is beginning to be prosecuted with minimal news coverage and publicity. One of the news' biggest faults is the publication or romanticization of serial killers. With no consideration to victims or their families, these cases are widely publicized. I appreciate that with this case the only news reported was that of what was necessary, avoiding bringing a killer undeserving attention.
The issue of the media blowing events out of proportion to influence the American people can also be seen in the case of yellow journalism. Acting as a sort of propaganda, the newspaper managed to change the public's opinion rather than just inform.
