We can never forget the heartbreaking day on December 14, 2012 when a man came in and shot and killed many kids and educators of Sandy Hook Elementary School. Parents of one of the victims Jackie Barden and David Wheeler have learned to keep moving forward with their lives knowing their son Ben who was killed in the shooting would want them to. The 2 are filing a lawsuit against gun maker Remington. "Each of the kids had 3 to 8 bullets in them".The fact that something like that can happen baffles them. The case has the potential to make history if it goes to trial. A 2005 federal law, the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act grants gun manufactures immunity from any lawsuit related to injuries that result from criminal misuse of their product. In this case relates to the AR-15 rifle the shooter used.
This connects to the 2nd amendment right t bear arms. In a way I feel like the gun manufacturers should be liable but at the same way it would put them out of business. You could never be sure what the purpose of your product will be. i feel like gun violence is a big problem and especially in schools. However it's hard to control this problem without violating the 2nd ammendment.

ReplyDeleteThe quote you used about how many bullets were found in each of the victims gave me chills. This suing might give some of the parents closure, but I don't know if it's the right path to take, They manufacturer didn't know it would be used for criminal acts.
I know Americans have the right to bear arms, but times have changed, there are bad people out there. Personally I think it should be difficult to get a gun, like there are requirements just so we could make sure these people aren't going to do something like this. But these things will happen, no matter how hard we try to abolish it completely.(Alejandra Hernandez 6th period)
