It's understood among the scientific community that climate change is a real problem and that humans are the cause of it. 95% percent of climate scientists agree, but many teachers are still getting it wrong. Only 3/4 of science teachers talk about climate change in class and most only talk about it for a small amount of time. Slightly more than half are explaining that human use of fossil fuels is the reason for global warming. The study suggests two causes for the inaccurate information: a lack of formal training in college and outdated textbooks. This leaves teachers to use what they know already, which isn't always correct. This relates to the Scopes Trial, where John Scopes was arrested for teaching Darwin's theory of evolution. Darwinism took so long to be accepted into the mainstream curriculum because the general public refused to listen to scientists who actually knew what they were talking about. Despite an overwhelming percentage of experts' opinions, climate change is still protested by people dragging their feet in the ground, so it's not taught as well as it needs to be.

It honestly astounds me how people can truly believe that global warming is a hoax. The evidence is all around us! The next generations need to be educated about this so they can preserve our planet!
ReplyDeleteAlthough many people deny that climate change is real, I still think it is something that should be taught in schools so that people know the causes, and how to lessen the effects of it. -Claudia Anthony
