FIRST Latina Sesame Street Character :-) Amaya Avila 8 pd

A new character has hit the 46th season of Sesame Street, Nina is the first Latina character in its 46 years of air time!! Recently, Sesame Street has produced more diverse characters, this is very important because the trending #OscarSoWhite has raised awareness to the lack of diversity in Hollywood film culture. Although, Sesame Street has created a diverse character, they have some how managed to anger viewers. Nina, the Latina character is a hard working girl, as she works at a laundromat, as a baby-sitter, and in the local bike shop. This portrays fellow Latinas to fit the typical "Mexican American" stereotype, of a person woking to pay rent or college tuition. Unfortunately, this is reality.

I found this article really interesting, due to the lack of Hispanic recognition in American culture. In the past few years there has always been awareness of African American equality, but I believe, as a Mexican American, that there should be just as enough discussion here. This story can relate the 13, 14, and 15 amendments that represented the recognition of African Americans.
