Claudia Anthony "Ted Cruz: Making U.S. women eligible to be drafted is 'nuts'"

Today, Ted Cruz said to a New Hampshire audience that it is "nuts" to require women to sign up for the draft. His view contradicts that of Rubio, Bush, and Christie, who all supported women being required to enroll in Selective Service, because females can now serve in combat roles. Cruz said he believes "political correctness is dangerous" and used is daughters as an argument to contrast the view of the other candidates. He believes that forcibly having his daughters sent to fight, "doesn't make sense at all."

If Cruz had a son, would he feel like he should not be required to enroll in Selective Service? The first time women were allowed to join the military was in 1917 when American joined WWI, and I do not see why almost 100 years later, women should not be required to register. Now that the Defense Department has opened up combat roles to women, I think they serve an equal role as men in the army, and should be required to sign up for the draft.

  1. They should go the extra mile and ban Texas senators that look like they got disfigured in the birth canal from the draft.

  3. It's not even really about deserving the chance to go to war, but more about not holding ridiculous double standards about women needing equal pay and opportunities as men but not having to go through the same government-sponsored hardships when necessary. Should the draft be re-implemented (I know it never went defunct, but has not been used since Vietnam), women should definitely be brought into the draft as well. Cruz is just showing his true colors again: yellow. He's a coward and a traitor to his own nation. The only thing separating him from Trump is that he's worse, and as an actual politician, he would know what he was doing if elected (which is very bad, considering all of his policies would ruin the country. Trump may even be a more viable option for the GOP because he is literally too stupid to do any wrong.)

  4. I feel like this whole argument is pointless. Women have the same rights as men and if they want to serve their country they shouldn't be told "no" just because of their gender. -Mattie Whisler 9th period Flex
