On April 2nd, 2015, terrorist group, Al-Shabaab (linked to al Qaeda), attacked a university in Garissa, Kenya, killing 147 people. The alleged leader of this attack, Mohamed Mohamud, is now on Kenya's most wanted list and is offering a 20 million Kenyan shilling (approximately a 215,000 dollar award). There is also speculation about a government official's son, Abdirahim Abdullai, being involved in the murderous rampages that occurred during the attack. As this news has circulated Kenya, feelings of fear and helplessness have ran throughout the country. One woman reported that while the attack was occurring she had hidden herself in a closet under a pile of clothes for two days straight and hydrated by drinking body lotion before police rescued her. There continues to be more investigation about the attack daily.
This attack is completely horrifying and it is not reported in the media enough. This brutal attack is an act of terror that should be reported on equally as much as the Charlie Hebdo attacks, etc. I hope that the U.S. helps Kenya fight against these terrorists just as they would in any other country, and that the American people are properly informed.
