Diverse Emojis!- Iris Hughey p.5

On Thursday, Apple's newest iOS update included a new set of emojis that are diverse in race, ethnicity, and sexual orientation. Not only are there now a range of skin tones that the iPhone user can choose from, but there are also gay and lesbian couples being represented in emoji-form. Although the newest update has a much larger selection of diverse emojis, many people are saying that the emojis are missing different flags as well as a red-headed emoji. Thousands have already signed a petition to get a red-headed emoji added into the next update.

I think it is so wonderful that Apple has finally broadened the spectrum of emojis. I also think it's great that so many people are trying to get even more representation and diversity and are willing to make petitions to get the attention of Apple product employees. I hope that this is the beginning of a lot of good changes and improvements for diversity being represented -- and not just for Apple.
