Religion Takes Away A Child (Ashton Garcia, 2nd)

5 years ago, a couple had a fight due to the subject of switching religions. The husband had converted to Islam. The wife is a "committed Hindu". The husband wanted his wife to convert to Islam as well, but she refused, and a divorce was threatened. During the fight, the husband took their 11 month old child and got on his motorcycle and fled. Although the wife had the rights over the child, it was excused by the Islamic Court.

Ok, so it seems like since the beginning of time, beliefs, especially religions, have caused a huge problem and has gotten in the way of things it should never get in the way of. Like when the Irish came to the US because of the potato famine, they were heavily looked down upon because of their religion and beliefs. And the fact that because the wife isn't Islamic, her child was taken away and it's now ok. This isn't right at all. Religion should be a personal thing, something that should never get in the way for things especially like this. It doesn't make sense to me that because someone doesn't believe in the same thing as you do, you have to take away their rights and even their own child. I'm really passionate about this subject, and I don't think it's right to bring religion into court, or taken into public at all. It's something personal and other people's beliefs should he respected and not something that takes away their rights and family. I don't know how much more I can stress this. It comes up so much and frustrates me so much.

  1. its impossible though for religion not to affect public opinion or court decisions or family life because religion is not just me believing something different than you. it shapes your entire worldview and it determines your moral compass and it influences your actions and opinions on everything
