Gun Sales Increase in Ferguson By: Zaria Chambers

There has been a huge increase in gun sales in Ferguson as many gear up to hear the fate of the police officer who shot Michael Brown back in August. One resident names McMullen who runs a Insurance Company on West Florissant which is close to where shooting and vandalism broke out after the teen was shot says that he has to bring a gun to work to protect himself. McMullen says that he's been carrying guns since tension had began to build up because of the shooting. McMullen feels that because he is why he has a bigger target on his back and this is a way of protecting himself. McMullen then begins to tell people that if they buy a gun to be responsible with it, don't just go around and use the gun recklessly. Many of the residents of Ferguson are on edge waiting for the verdict form the grand jury. McMullen says that many new people come into his store and tell him how scared they are for the outcome of this situation.

I think that is completely sad that people have to go out and buy guns so that they can feel protected from whatever happens after the verdict is read. I also think that is very scary that people who don't know to use guns are buying them. This goes back to the second amendment to where anyone has the right to bear arms.  People need to very responsible with these guns and not reckless, because if people choose to be reckless that's just going to cause more trouble than their needs to be. I really hope that the grand jury is fair and make the right decision in this case.

  1. I do not think that having more guns circulating in the community is going to solve this problem at all; in fact, I think it will do the opposite. If more people are carrying guns, (especially people who do not know how to properly use them), I think that will only increase the amount of violence and tension in their community.

  2. I completely agree with Vivie. I think the sudden increase in gun sales is foreshadowing bad things to come for Ferguson...

  3. Ferguson is a powder keg, and whatever decision is made, something bad is going to happen. The situation there has been handled horribly since the start. This is what happens when you have police who are armed like, and think of themselves as, a branch of the military.

  4. :( This whole incident is unfortunate and the fact that some of America is past racial bias, while others aren't is saddening. I hope we make it past this
