Protests in London - Faith Wangermann
In an article published online by CNN on Monday April 15th, written by Eliza Mackintosh, the actions taken by protesters recently in London are detailed. As part of the global campaign of the British climate organization "Extinction Rebellion", thousands of people took to the streets and blockaded some of the busiest roads and bridges in the country. Some glued themselves to street furniture, to further raise alarm for their cause. Extinction rebellion has undertaken rallies in at least 80 cities across over 33 countries and demanding governments take "decisive action on the climate and ecological emergency." These intense protests for a dire cause like climate change are similar to those of the Civil Rights Movement, as they are non-violent and passionate, but face a lot of opposition when it comes to enacting legislation.
