"U.S. measles cases surge as officials scramble to stop near-record outbreak"
Lena H. Sun's article provides shocking statistics for the same deluge of measles outbreaks I discussed in my last article. I normally wouldn't want to go back to the same issue in current events blogs, however this New York outbreak situation has me very concerned for our nation.
As I discussed in my previous article, there is a whole pandora's box of controversy surrounding vaccination and whether or not there should be federal requirements. Normally, I would advocate that it is the choice of the individual; but after reading Sun's article in the Washington Post, I realised that this outbreak is a lot more serious. In the article, Sun provides evidence showing how the number of outbreaks is constantly increasing and is about to reach the national record. That's terrifying. Healthcare in the U.S. is flawed, chiefly because people want quality, inexpensive or free healthcare without excessive government involvement. Medicaid and Medicare, along with Obamacare all tackled slight facets of this problem, but ultimately, if in 2019 when we're at the height of technology we're facing issues regarding vaccination and health, something needs to be done either globally or nationally to address this issue.
