VP Mike Pence stated in a speech last week that the current administration wants astronauts back on the Moon by 2024. NASA administrator Jim Bridenstine gave NASA an open door to go to the Moon on a Falcon Heavy rocket built by Elon Musk's SpaceX. The fact that the Trump administration put forth the idea could potentially shake off the support of the Democratic party, but in previous launches, the party has been in favor of private companies like SpaceX taking charge of space exploration.
57 years ago, President John F. Kennedy stated that the nation should work towards a safe landing of man on the Moon along with a safe return. His plan was to have this executed by the end of the decade, and in 1969, the Apollo 11 spaceflight successfully landed two men on the Moon. By 1972, the US landed 12 people on the Moon and since then, no other humans have stepped foot on the Moon. Vice President Mike Pence's goal to land another human on the Moon by 2024 is very similar to that of President Kennedy's goal in the 60s. An estimated 500 million people from around the globe watched the 1969 Moon landing and I don't know how many people will watch the landing in 2024, but I am excited to be one of them!
