This CNN article discusses the biggest news of Monday, April 15: the fire at Notre Dame. The piece talks about how difficult it was for firefighters to really tackle the fire due to the stone structure of the building. Luckily, significant parts of the cathedral were saved and are still standing.
This is an important article and piece of news for the world to know about because this cathedral has been standing since 1163. To see such a historic sight burn affects everyone around the world. This relates to the much smaller and not nearly as devastating burning of Big Tex in 2012 at the State Fair of Texas. I'm very happy that the majority of the cathedral could be saved and applaud all the hard word of the firefighters.
It's crazy to think that this is an event that will probably be in the textbooks. I realized this when everyone was reading these articles about it and announcing it to classes, like this was huge. I'm so glad that a lot of the building was saved; I was really worried that it would would be completely destroyed. -Miranda Farrar
