Sophie Knox- The Flu Vaccine
Source: There’s good news about the flu vaccine this year, especially for kids - Vox https://apple.news/Al0tBdFc5Sj2XLM8J4ZpHLw
Summary: Last year, the Flu vaccine didn’t help prevent the flu that much, and it was the worst yearsof it- over 80,000 people died due to the flu.?This article says that the Flu vaccine has been more effective this year, especially with kids. This year, the effectiveness is 50-70%. Of course, this does not mean next year the shot will be as helpful because the flu evolves and the strains of DNA change, thus making the prior antidote ineffective. The article then goes on to list the difference between the Flu and the common cold like vomiting, stomach pain, and nausea. For young kids, it’s better to get a hospital checkup just in case, since it is more deadly to them.
Analysis: My step-sister just got the flu (she got the vaccine) and the doctor said that the shot wasn’t working, so I’m not really sure who to trust. CNN states that it is less than 50% effective. I haven’t gotten the vaccine. Normally I do, but we forgot this year. The article was very informative and did site it’s sources, but I trust what the Doctor said more. The purpose of the article was to convince others to get the shot while also giving information about influenza. This relates to all of U.S History, because humans have always struggled with overcoming viruses like Yellowfever and for native Americans, smallpox.

I am not sure whether the flu shot does or doesn't work because the news seems to be conflicting. I hope that the doctors can find a vaccine that does prevent the flu or makes the symptoms less risky for patients.
