Lily Philips- Student Arrested After Not Standing for Pledge of Allegiance?

An eleven year old boy in Florida was arrested for refusing to stand during the Pledge of Allegiance at school. Even though it is legal in Florida and allowed by the school district to remain seated during the pledge, he was charged anyway because they claimed he had a confrontation with the police and teachers. The kid believes the flag signifies racism, and the pledge offends African Americans. His mother demanded that the charges are dropped against her son since she believes her son did not threaten his teacher.
This article was written by Kristin Lam and published in USA Today. The author was clear and concise and did not contain any bias, strictly facts. The audience of this article is the people of America. This shows the importance of freedom of speech and technicalities of the law. This event is important to learn about, so you are aware of different controversies of American tradition and patriotism and the idea that the people of the U.S. have ability to stand up for what we believe in. This reminds me of the controversy where the football players decided to take a knee or stay in the locker room during the National Anthem because they were protesting against racism in America.
