Jussie Smollett was attacked on January 29 in Chicago as a gay hate crime because of his role as Jamal Lyon on Empire, a gay black man. At least that's what we all thought. Supposedly, this attack was planned and Smollett paid the two brothers to attack him as a publicity stunt. This situation is still developing. These type of attacks happen everyday as microaggressions or as something as big as being physically attacked. The LGBT+ community in America have gotten their marriage rights but they are still treated unfairly by a lot of Americans.
