He’s Made Thousands of Crosses for Victims. These 5 Were for His Neighbors - Emma Hancock

He’s Made Thousands of Crosses for Victims. These 5 Were for His Neighbors.
Greg Zanis, a carpenter from Illinois, has spent time making wooden cross memorials for shooting and disaster victims since 1999 when the Columbine shooting occurred. He has constructed and delivered 26,274 handmade wooden memorials so far. This week, when 5 industrial workers in suburban Chicago were fatally shot, he was shocked and did not have to go very far to deliver his handmade memorial that happened to be for his neighbors. Zanis did not expect to see dozens of police vehicles drive past his neighborhood in efforts to save those who were shot, his non profit “Crosses for Losses” was not mentally prepared to provide for those so closeby.

I think it is amazing what Zanis has done for his community and to bring something to offer his condolences around the nation. This small act of kindness can impact the emotions of victims and lets them know that he cares. This reminds me of the care taken for those in the time of the “Great Migration” that helped african-americans impacted by violence and segregation.
