Avery Corley: sailor from "The Kiss" dies at age 95

Representing joy felt during the end of the war, "The Kiss" was one of the most famous icons depicting the end of WWII. Also known as "The Kissing Sailor" the photo showing a young sailor kissing a nurse in Time Square is perhaps one of the most famous photographs of the 20th century. The supposed nurse, Greta Friedman, explained that the picture had captured the pure celebration of the end of the war, and the joy that was filling Time Square. While this picture will forever be considered a timeless work of art, sadly, the supposed sailor, George Mendonsa dies on February 17th. Although Mendonsa has passed his soul and spirit will always live famously through "The Kiss". While the event of John Mccains death is recent this story reminds me of Mccains experiences in the Vietnam war, and how his story will soon become a part of history.
