3 injured when panicked audience flees 'Hamilton' in San Francisco - Joziah German

During a performance of the musical “Hamilton”, panicked audience members self-evacuated, injuring three Friday night in San Fransisco. Reports say audience members mistook the scene where Alexander Hamilton is shot on stage, as a real life shooting. Police told reporters that a women in the crowd was having a heart attacking and people in the theatre thought she was shot. Cast members as well had to evacuate the Orpheum Theatre. The women in critical condition was taken to the hospital. As with the other three injured, they suffered a broken leg or other minor injuries. Many audience members are very upset because they didn’t get their money back and for the lies that the theatre  posted on Twitter.

This article created by Jay Croft, CNN, was published just a day after the incident at the theatre. I had no prior knowledge about this ordeal, in addition, I don’t think I have ever heard of a self, misunderstanding evacuation like this one. The fact that people thought there was a shooter and practically ran crazy  because of a women having a heart attack is beyond bizarre. This really goes to show America’s paranoias. This event reminds me of the 2012 Aurora shooting. It’s not the shooting part, but it was the turning point where a shooting inside a theatre had never happened before. The Aurora Shooting really scared America and made them terrified of what could happen next. I think that’s what connects these two events. If the Colorado shooting never happened I think the whole thing with the heart attack would never have happened. People just freaked out. The audience is definitely America as a whole, and there anxiety with mass shootings. This article was written and is important because it points out our problem as a nation. We got comfortable and our safety vanished. Now, we are suffering the consequences of some of our decisions with guns. Lastly, we can’t enjoy anything without fear.
