This week, former Presidents Barrack Obama, George Bush, and Bill Clinton all attended John McCain’s funeral. Both Obama and Bush spoke at the funeral. John McCain was Obama’s Republican counterpart in the 2008 election, who he ultimately defeated. Former President Obama spoke highly of John McCain, and their friendship they had while Obama was in the Oval Office, despite the fact that they disagreed on most things politically.
In today’s world, bipartisanship is rare, if it even exists within the major political offices. However, when the United States was a young country, compromises between the two parties, as well as friendships were not unlikely as they all saught after a common goal. Obama and McCain’s relationship was reminiscent of that.

I feel that this really says a lot about John McCain because even though they were on opposing sides, he still respected both men. He showed that even though he and Obama had different views and disagreed with each other, they could still come together and be friends. At the end of the day, we are all humans and should respect each other even if we are on different parties. Lily Philips
