Texas police officer convicted of murder Sally north

Former Balch Springs police officer was found guilty of murder after shooting an unarmed teenager in April of 2017.

Former officer Roy Oliver shot and killed the 15 year old African American teenager Jordan Edwards after being called to a house party on the reports of underage drinking. Oliver stated that he felt threatened by how the car Edwards was in was moving causing him to fire five rounds. However, footage from the incident shows the vehicle driving away from the site, and Oliver's partner said he never felt that he was in any form of danger.

Oliver is only the second officer to have been convicted of murder in well over a decade with fewer than 90 officers being charged with murder or manslaughter since 2005.

  1. I am glad that the police officers who have shot unarmed teenagers are finally starting to be punished for what they have done. In my opinion (though every case is different) many if these situations involve police officers abusing their position and being "trigger-happy" around young people of color.

  2. In my opinion this was the right choice and I'm glad to know someone is looking out for people who look like me. The sad thing is how long it took them to charge him. These cases especially this one hits close to home knowing that that could have been me. We need to give police officers more training on dealing with certain groups of people, maybe sensitivity? I hope we can fix this problem.
