This article was written on September 22, 2018 by Peter Baker for the New York Times. Peter Baker is the chief White House correspondent for the New York Times and has covered Barack Obama's, Bill Clinton's, and George W. Bush's presidencies in the past. This article was written to compile the discussion of the 25th amendment from White House staff members and to provide information on the way the 25th amendment works. This article is important because it brings to light the reliability of our president and the possibility of his removal, which would have definite implications on the state of our country and it's relations with other countries. This event and article echoes the time of when the 25th amendment was added to the constitution in 1967, after the assassination of John F. Kennedy. Lyndon B. Johnson then ascended to the Presidency, with former Speaker of the House John W. McCormack as then next in line if something happened. But, McCormack was not at his physical peak, so the 25th amendment was created to create a procedure if the president is unfit for the job.
