Eleven Allegheny County Jail fell ill due to an unknown substance or odor Sunday night. 9 correction officers and 2 medical personnel were effected. They have been treated and released from a local hospital , but the jail is still under strict lock down. Since the beginning of August , 18 staff members at three institutions in western Pennsylvania sickened by the exposure.

In my opinion I think they should close all the facilities in that region and transfer the inmates. It’s not fair to the workers that they are getting sick for doing their jobs. I also think , even though they’re criminals, it’s unfair to the inmates because they’re serving they’re time and getting sick wasn’t apart of their punishment. I wonder if this is one of the reasons reformers wanted to reform the jail system in the first place. I honestly think this is why they did what they did to keep everyone safe.

  1. If it seems to be a random outbreak at three different jails, Where do you think they should move the prisoners?

  2. I agree that they should be moved to a different facility and treated better. I never heard of this situation and the fact that there is some unkown substance/odor causing officers and inmates to get sick and report to the hospital is very strange. They should move the officers and inmates and find out what the substance is before it seriously hurts more people.
