People are threatening to boycott In-N-Out Burger after the popular fast food chain recently donated $25,000 to the California Republican Party. On Thursday, an enraged Eric Bauman, chair of the California Democratic Party tweeted “Et tu In-N-Out? Tens of thousands of dollars donated to the California Republican Party… it’s time to #BoycottInNOut - let Trump and his cronies support these creeps… perhaps animal style!” Although it may seem as though the fast food chain is aligning itself with Republican views, they recently released a statement saying that In-N-Out Burger has made equal contributions to both Californian parties in 2018. This, fortunately, doesn’t mean much for In-N-Out as there is no official boycott campaign and Bauman’s comment has been said to be personal.
This article was written on Friday, August 31 so it is very up to date, although there still may be more news to come about how both parties respond. Recently companies are increasingly being threatened due to various political issues. Not too long ago Chick-fil-A faced criticism for donating to organizations that are fighting same-sex marriage and Starbucks also faced potential boycott after getting rid of the traditional Christmas cups. I think this article was written to inform the public about what’s going on between the political parties and where In-N-Out stands on this issue. This article is important because it’s bringing awareness to the increasing activism by company executives about politics mainly due to the fact that they are trying to make positive impacts on today’s society.
I personally believe that public restaurants should remain apolitical, or "Switzerland". They're only going to themselves damage by choosing a side. They're just alienating half of the population, giving themselves less popularity.
