The article was produced on August 31, 2018 in Austin, TX. Before I read the article, I already knew that about 35 years ago, Texas legislature authorized local schools districts to deny enrollment to immigrant children who were not legally admitted to the United States. In the case Plyler v Doe in 1982, the Supreme Court of the United States struck a state statute denying educational funds to undocumented kids. I think this article is targeting taxpayers mostly because they might want to know how the government is using their money. The taxpayers fund public schools that's attended by mostly illegal immigrants. Also, the youth in the shelters are affected by this choice because since they're not technically allowed to be enrolled in a school district, they're not being provided necessary public services, such as a free education supported by taxpayers. I think Southwest Key will struggle with the decision of voluntarily providing for immigrants since they have partnerships that are now jeopardized that allow young immigrants to achieve credits that enables them to attend other public schools. I believe it’s important for taxpayers to know
