Super Bowl National Security Docs Left on Plane

Summary: The Department of Homeland Security had created a program known as BioWatch, a DHS program that watched and conducted anthrax drills in preparation for the Super Bowl in Minneapolis. Documents containing information regarding this program had been discovered by a CNN employee in the back seat pocket of a commercial airplane. Along with the official's boarding pass and other sensitive DHS material, this information and been left on a public plane for who knows to see. These papers were reports of how public health, law enforcement, and emergency management officials would react if a biological attack were to occur on Sunday's Super Bowl. Some of these reports also contained drill reports on how prepared the different departments were in the event of an attack and deficiencies were highlighted. This was in order to be better prepared in case these deficiencies were used against officials. This event had occurred before the Super Bowl and was asked by the DHS to be withheld until afterward for national security.
Analysis: This shows an example of human error because if these documents were discovered by an attacker instead of a CNN official, it could have had devastating effects. How do you leave important documents like these on public airplanes? It even had the person's boarding pass. Seriously? That person either forgot everything that he was doing or left in a hurry. Both of which is unacceptable. Documents like these can't be afforded to be forgotten about, especially those concerning security details.
