This article details the story of Derris Guice who claims when interviewing for prospective teams he was asked whether or not he liked men. This situation is confirmed, and echoed by various other NFL players that have come forward saying they have been questioned about their sexuality when interviewing for a specific team. The NFL commented that sexuality should not come into play when in discussion for being hired, it isn't something to consider nor inquire about.
This is not an uncommon narrative, when it comes to sexuality and gender identity laws that restrict employers from discrimination are notoriously lax. We saw this with the whole Boycott Indiana ordeal. People feel their religious freedoms have been infringed upon when forced to serve queer people, and the majority of lawmakers prefer to just kind of leave this issue be. The federal government has never been strong with handling discrimination, and historically favors white heterosexual people, and while strides have been made with the supreme court ruling for gay marriage there is still more to be done.
