- Trump sent out a tweet on February 15th, following the Florida school shooting. The tweet stated that there were many apparent signs that the Cruz(the gunman) presented, and that the other students should have reported him to the police. Twitter then promptly blew up with responses accusing trump of blaming the victims, one response being “Do you even think before you tweet. So insensitive, indirectly passing the blame to the victims”, many contained similar reactions. The tweet has been paired with a headline about the bill that stripped away background checks for the mentally ill, for quite the hypocritical comparison.
- The concept of ‘victim blaming’ is very common, especially in cases of rape or sexual assault. It takes some of the blame off of the perpetrator, thus partially justifying their actions. When the person pointing the finger is the president and the victim is a group of school shooting survivors, I would lie if I said I was anything less than horrified. https://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/donald-trump-blame-victims-florida-shooting_us_5a85e8b6e4b05c2bcac8e986
