Teens Hold "Lie-In" Outside White House

This President's Day, hundreds of supporters and teens staged a 'lie-in" outside the White House to urge law makers to pass tougher gun laws. The group, known as Teens for Gun Reform, began organizing the event last week at Marjory Stonemason Douglas High School in Florida. It consisted of seventeen demonstrators lying down for three minutes to depict how long it took Nikolas Cruz to gun down the 17 students and teachers killed in last week's shooting. The organizers are pushing for stricter gun laws to ensure that these tragedies are less and less common, one comment said, "it's essential that we all feel safe in our classrooms". Hundreds of supporters flocked to this event on top of those coming from Marjory Stonemason Douglas High School.

It's inspiring to see young people speaking their minds and using their rights to protest an issue that is affects so many. As of February 14, a total of 30 mass shootings have occurred this year. That's more than what many other countries have seen in the past twenty years. This problem is a huge and devastating one, and the solution will no doubt be immensely complicated. But I agree that something needs to be done. Children are dying in schools, a place where they should learn and grow safely. Kids of all ages should have nothing to fear going to school. Students deserve a sense of safety and comfort. I don't know what the solution will be, but it needs to happen soon. This is a delicate situation, and so many are affected by it.
