Esophageal Cancer Related to Tea? - Joaquin Sanchez

A new study suggests that drinking tea that's too hot (if you smoke or drink regularly) increases the chance of esophageal cancer, the eighth most common cancer in the world. Esophageal cancer kills around 400,000 each year, from the International Agency for Research on Cancer. This type of cancer is usually due to repeated injury to the esophagus form smoke, acid reflux, alcohol, and possibly hot liquids. A study following around 500,000 adults in China over 9 1/2 years came to this conclusion. Participants who drank tea on a weekly basis described the temperature as "warm," "hot," or "burning hot." Drinking the "hot" or "burning hot" tea of itself the predictor of cancer, but in regards to smoking tobacco or drinking alcohol, the risk increased. "Drinking hot tea contributed to cancer only when it clustered with smoking and drinking alcohol excessively," said Jun Lv, a professor in the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics at Peking University. "Excessive alcohol use" was at 15+ grams of alcohol daily, and "excessive tobacco use" was 1+ cigarettes daily. In conclusion, very hot drinks could make the esophagus more vulnerable to known cancer-causing agents, especially in regards to alcohol and tobacco.

  1. I better hope drinking hot tea on its own isn't a carcinogen, because if so like $50 of Earl Grey is about to go straight into the trash

  2. There is no analysis here. How does this relate to history? Also, this post is very similar to the wording in the article. Remember that plagiarism is illegal. Copying and pasting also messes with the format of the blog. Don't do it. The only think you should copy and paste is the link.
