After months of political arguments and even a government shutdown, it does not appear as though a deal will be made for the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) before March 5th when it is set to be terminated and replaced. Democrats argue for an easier path to legal immigration for these children while Republicans argue for stronger border security, including the infamous border wall. This gap seems to be so big that no agreement can bridge it. Leon Fresco, an immigration attorney, says that no deal will be made. According to Fresco, President Trump's proposal was too conservative for Democrats and too liberal for Conservatives. In other words, a stalemate. The most likely result moving forward would be another temporary extension of the program.
The article from CNN does not appear to be biased as it presents facts and quotes. Congress in in a difficult position right now as both parties seem to be making no compromises. The only way for this too resolve itself is there to be bipartisan bill that meets requirements of both parties. They need to not require every party position but meet a number of them. This is similar to the events leading up to the Compromise of 1877 in which Republican Hayes received votes in return for the withdraw of federal troops from the South. The parties need to start to work together so that deals are made and the DACA children do not have to wait in fear of the unknown.
