Russian Spy Ship Spotted Near US Soil

A Russian spy ship, the Viktor Leonov, was spotted 100 miles south east of Wilmington North Carolina, just days after it was seen leaving Spain. The ship is decked out with a variety of high-tech spy equipment designed to to intercept communications signals. The ship has been spotted in numerous locations, including the Caribbean just last week. As to where the ship's destination is, we do not know, but it has typically traveled near Cape Canaveral, King's Boy, Norfolk, and New London previously. Each of these locations is a home to US naval installations. A CNN official has said that based on historical patterns, "the ship is likely on a 4-6 month deployment off the East Coast where it will be conducting intelligence operations". The ship has sailed along the US cost in international waters just off the coast of US naval installations. The Viktor Leonov has been spotted as close as 20 miles south of the King's Bay submarine base near the Florida border. The vessel has been hovering in international waters near the US coast for several months, and even years.
This is very frightening to me, and I wonder what sort of information they've gathered. The fact that the vessel had conducted the same research for some time, only miles from US naval installations, scares me. I wonder if the US Navy has taken any precautionary measures, and if so, what they are.

  1. I have the same questions as you on this topic, have they done anything to prevent this?
